Information about your local planning authority

Your local planning authority is responsible for planning in your area. Your local planning authority does two main things:

1. It prepares a 'development plan' for the authority area. The development plan looks forward between 10 and 15 years, and describes the types of development that should happen in different areas.

2. It decides planning applications.

Usually your city, county or borough council is your local planning authority. But if you live in a national park, the local planning authority is the national park authority.
