Helping communities engage with planning

Community engagement

Community engagement in the Brecon Beacons National Park

The Brecon Beacons National Park Authority commissioned Planning Aid Wales in 2008 to help engage community and town councils in the early stages of preparing a Local Development Plan (LDP).

Working as an independent training provider and facilitator, we devised a structured engagement programme which has assisted to build the capacity of community and town councils in one local planning authority area to engage productively in planning policy-making. The project has also developed community understanding of environmental capacity issues and has been instrumental in building more positive relationship between the planning authority and its communities.
