Training Programme for Community Town Councils in Collaboration with One Voice Wales

Planning Aid Wales is currently delivering a Wales-wide programme of training days for CTC's in collaboration with One Voice Wales. Events have taken place so far in Welshpool on the 17th of November; Cardiff (Penarth) on the 20th of January; Newport on the 21st of January; and Swansea on the 26th of January. All four recieved positive feedback and we now have ten future events confirmed across Wales on the following dates;

  • 31st March, Mold - Complete
  • 3rd May, Kidwelly - Complete
  • 19th May, Swansea - Cancelled
  • 26th May, Cwmbran - Complete
  • 9th June, Neath - Cancelled
  • 16th June, Brackla - Complete
  • 16th June, Usk - Complete
  • 23rd June, Welshpool - Cancelled
  • 28th June, Haverfordwest - Complete
  • 29th June, Caernarfon - Complete
  • 7th June, Prestigne and Norton - Complete

All sessions run from 18:30 to 21:00 and include;

  • An overview of the planning system, including key players
  • The role of CTC's in planning
  • Local Development Plans
  • Material Considerations
  • Planning Applications
  • Interactive planning games.

Planning training and resources for community and town councils

Planning Aid Wales is currently preparing a comprehensive suite of planning training materials for community and town councils, grant-funded by the Welsh Assembly Government.

The materials will include five 'action packs' that contain all the instructions and resources needed for councils to run their own training sessions on key aspects of local planning. The training materials will be available as free downloads from our website, and hard copies can be purchased for a small fee.

Councils will also have the option to hire Planning Aid Wales facilitators to run the training sessions for them at a discount rate. Please click here for the current rates.

  • Action Pack 2: Understanding Local Development Plans (2.5 hours)
  • Action Pack 3: How to be effective in the Local Development Plan preparation process (2.5 hours)
